Chan’s Oriental Foods is the first Chinese Supermarket in Cornwall. We are a Chinese husband and wife team, Steve and Ket Yee, who are passionate about cooking and eating. It all started from our pure frustration; for over 20 years of living in Cornwall and not being able to find the right cooking ingredients, such as the essential Fermented Black Beans, Fresh tofu and the authentic Oyster Sauce e.t.c. for our everyday cooking. To satisfying our cravings for snacks like for example, seaweeds and instant noodles. And most of all, the weekly treat of Dim Sum e.g. Char Siu Buns and Siu Mai pork dumplings with Chinese tea, these were only available in China Towns of major cities in the UK. So in 2005 we opened our own shop selling Chinese and Oriental cooking ingredients in Penzance. It was an instant hit for those who were interested in cooking with an Oriental flavour. In 2010 we moved to a larger premises in the heart of Penzance, just opposite The Green Market in Alverton Street We carry a huge selection of foods and beverages from China, Thailand, Japan, Philippines and Malaysia. Our selections of Oriental Condiments are from well-known and trusted brands back home e.g. Lee Kum Kee, Yeo’s, Mae Ploy e.t.c, which are unequaled in the West of Cornwall. We also stock all the cooking ingredients you would need to produce a first-class Oriental meal and if you wished the crockery on which to serve it. Steve has been a chef for many years and together we’ve owned our own Chinese Restaurant before opening the shop. We are well versed in all forms of Chinese Cooking. Steve also teaches Chinese Cooking Lessons at Penwith College on Tuesday evenings. One to One cooking lessons are available by arrangement and Steve will also cater for Parties, Banquets or Buffets at a location of your choice. Due to popular demand, a home delivery service is also available which is excellent for customers purchasing sacks of Thai Rice and many frozen foods. Our aim is to provide good quality, authentic and specialised ingredients for oriental cooking at an excellent price to customers in this beautiful part of the UK We pride ourselves in the excellent customer service we offer, not only to the new and shy novice, but also to the experienced chefs. We are friendly and helpful and always willing to offer advice, menus, teaching or supplying anything to do with Oriental Cooking.
